IWASP met with an impressive number of civil society organizations (CSO) in southern Saint Lucia, where, a month ago, we had officially launched our very first IWaSP development partnership between the ‘Water & Sewerage Company Inc.’ (WASCO), the ‘Windward and Leeward Brewery’ (HEINEKEN), and the ‘Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit’ (GIZ). GIZ is implementing on behalf of the ‘German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development’ (BMZ) and the U.K. ‘Department for International Development’ (DfID).
The meeting, organized well by WASCO, was welcomed by various community groups made up of churches, schools, wellness centers, youth and sports councils, mothers and fathers groups, community leaders, hotels, and businesses. The assembly selected four members to serve their interests within the Saint Lucia International Water Stewardship Program (SL-IWaSP). The four members cover a wide range of CSOs, namely the ‘Laborie Mini Bus Association’ (Nicholas Henry), the ‘La Haut Youth and Sports Council’ (Desma St. Ange), ‘Community Members’ (Sophia Leonce), and the ‘Church of God Seventh Day’ (George Evans).
Given the enthusiasm and very active participation by CSO and individual community members, and, indeed, head-on challenging questions directed at the three founding organizations of the IWaSP partnership,
